It Just Becomes
“At times when I am painting, I seem to be mindless and bodiless, but everything seems normal to me. Once I am functioning perfectly and the painting is being what I want it to be, it seems to become itself by its own volition. There is no struggling anymore, it just becomes. I am astonished as to how it becomes that way. I feel elated and I am lifted out of myself and suddenly realize that I am looking out finally at myself looking in.”
— Richard Dugmore, artist
