Intuition Not Observation

When I approach an empty canvas, the urge to create something that is uniquely mine is most always challenged and in danger of being corrupted by something that is framed/driven/dictated/molded (pick your own word) by traditional art. The artist Francis Bacon called this challenge being able to break away from the "willed articulation of the image." The abstract artist battles to bring about their creation from the "inside-out" not the "outside-in." Intuition not observation. I am trying to create a work that has never been seen before, that is unpredictable, most especially to myself. A painting that demands "retinal dominance," bringing no particular subject matter to mind. Yet somehow convinces the mind there is harmony & resolution in what is before them.
